Anna Ponces

Anna Ponces is an actress, stage director and singer. She was born in Barcelona and started out on the stage as a youngster with the Roseland Musical company. She has performed in international projects such as Le Baccanti d’Eurípides, at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano or Grand Peur et Misère du Illème Reich at the Theatre des Chimères.

Biography

Anna Ponces is an actress, stage director and singer. She was born in Barcelona and started out on the stage as a youngster with the Roseland Musical company. She studied Catalan Philology and graduated in Dramatic Arts, specialising in performance at the Institute of Theatre, where she later also studied for a PhD in Performing Arts, specialising in performance work that fuses stage and music. During her studies she collaborated masters like Declan Donellan, Lilo Baur, Peter Clough, Coralina Colom, Christine Adaire, Salvador Oliva and Sergi Belbel.

She studies music in the Luthier School and singing in Maya Mayska, Dolors Aldea and Mati Pinkas. She perfected her skills in masterclasses with teachers such as Emma Kirkby, Enrico Gavarini, Ana Luisa Chova and Ofèlia Sala. And she trained interpretation for singers in London with Clara Armand. She has worked as an actress with directors such as Herman Bonnin, Paul Berrondo, Josep M. Mestres or Lucas Ronconi and founded the vocal trio specialized in musicals Les Cot, of which she is the actress and director.

She directs theatre and opera. In recent seasons she has premiered productions of Il matrimonio segreto by Cimarrosa, La scala di seta and L’inganno Felice by Rossini and L’isola disabitata by M. García. She has worked as a stage director and assistant director in productions that mix music and theatre-like Papà Mozart with l’OSV and Joan and Roger Pera.

She has performed in international projects such as Le Baccanti d’Eurípides, at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano or Grand Peur et Misère du Illème Reich by Theatre des Chimères.

She has been teaching for more than 15 years. She has participated in social intervention projects through arts with the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation. She teaches music-related acting training at the Theatre and Stage Institute for singers and instrumentalists at the Sabadell Conservatory and the Badalona Conservatory. She teaches Music-related Narrative of the Space at the ELISAVA school.

She presents the radio programme on musical theatre ‘El millor dels temps‘ in Catalunya Música.
