Jordi Farrés

Jordi Farrés (Barcelona, 1977) started studying music at the Taller de Músics in Barcelona, which he finished in 1998. He has attended numerous masterclasses and seminars by masters like Pat Martino, Peter Bernstein, Pat Metheny, Michael Brecker, David Liebman, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Bill Dobbins and Bruce Barth, among others. He represented Spain at the IASJ Köhln Jazz Week ’98 and was a scholarship holder at the Berklee School of Music.

Biography

He has played in most of the clubs and festivals of the country with groups such as Raül Reverter Cuarteto, Raynald Colom Group, Piazzolla/Monk Crossings, Llibert Fortuny Duet, The Refugees, Joan Monné Duo, Guitarreando with Vicenç Solsona or the BigBand JazzTerrassa. He has accompanied musicians such as Jim Snidero, Peter Zak, Walter Smith III, Tony Reedus, Will Vinson, Roger Blàvia, Perico Sambeat, Scott Whitfield, Marc Miralta, Jordi Bonell, Dennis Rowland, Albert Bover, Ginger Berglund and Jorge Pardo. In the field of popular/Mediterranean music, he has accompanied artists such as Lluís Llach, Maria de Mar Bonet or Niña Venetsanou.

He recorded the albums Sofás, teléfonos y dibujantes de cómicos and the avant-garde Trop’s in Jazz with Raül Reverter Cuarteto, Entre amigos with Raynald Colom Quartet, Lord Jim Suite with Publio Delgado Jazz Ensemble, The George Van Eps Transcriptions on solo guitar and several collaborations with the composer Carles Cases. In the field of pedagogy, he worked in many educational centres, both public and private, and has given masterclasses and seminars to several centres in the area. He currently works at the Escuela Municipal de Música de Berga and teaches jazz guitar, improvisation and instrumental ensemble at the Escuela Superior de Estudios Musicales – Taller de Músicos de Barcelona.

He is the author of the guitar method Comping-Notes Guía published by the ESEM-TM (2012).
