The musician Vicens Soler studied percussion, drums, piano, music theory and harmony in Spain and Cuba. He is one of the accompanying musicians of choice for leading figures on the current scene. His collaboration with the singer Lucrecia, who he played with from 1993 to 2007, particularly stands out. He has performed at festivals all over Spain, as well as in France, Italy, Switzerland, Cuba, Germany and Greece, among other countries.
Among many other artists, he accompanies or has accompanied Tete Montoliu, Mayte Martín, Omara Portuondo, Dyango, Moncho, Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias (under the direction of Joan Albert Amargós), Paquito d’Rivera, Jerry González, Brenda Feliciano, The London Community Gospel Choir, Bcn Big Latin Ensemble, Nina & JA Amargós, Nacho Duato, Chavela Vargas, José Luís Cortés “El Tosco”, Lucho Gattica, Renatto Carossone, Los Manolos, Sabor de Gracia and Chicho Gordillo.
He has played at renowned festivals such as Womad, the Barcelona Jazz Festival, Expo Hannover, El Grec, the Barcelona Guitar Festival, La Mercè, the Terrassa Jazz Festival, the Rome Music Festival, and Son Latino in the Canary Islands, among others.
He has participated on various albums, such as Cuando el amor es tan grande by Dyango (Actual Recuerdos, 1996), Guantanamera (Warner Music, 2007) by Moncho, Tiempo de amar (Virgin, 2003) by Mayte Martín and Omara Portuondo, as well as on several albums by the singer Lucrecia. He has also recorded soundtracks for films (Segunda Piel, En la Ciudad) and documentaries (Balseros, Mujeres de sol).
In 1994 he received the Best Percussionist award from the Association of Jazz Musicians of Catalonia. In 2013 he won Enderrock magazine’s the Best Jazz Album award for the album Pavana Club (Fresh Sound World Jazz, 2013), which he recorded with The Jamboree Big Latin Band.
As a teacher, he has given classes at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu, the Tri-tò music school, El Estudio, Alois Haba and the Juan Pedro Carrero School of Musicians. He has also given various seminars.
