Taller de Músics Young Big Band

Born in 1984, the Taller de Músics Young Big Band is one of the pillars of the Taller de Músics programme and aims to offer participants the possibility of acquiring training and experience in a large format group.

Description

The selected musicians receive specific and complementary training weekly that consists of listening to, analysing and playing the music of the great classical masters of the big band.

The Taller de Músics Young Big Band is an initial practice in the staging live music and experiencing its specific characteristics. This is how, for years, it has acted as a springboard for musicians, making them ready to play with any type of formation, as shown by the fact that its ranks have included performers and authors who are very well known today.

OBJECTIVES

  • Know the usual repertoire of the Big Band.
  • Get to know the different great Big Bands of history and their peculiarities.
  • Master the ability to match the articulations and dynamics of the whole orchestra.
  • Establish criteria of interpretation, understanding and collective work.
  • To understand how the improvisation fits in the scheme of an arrangement.
  • To improve the reading at first sight.
  • To obtain the capacity of response to indications of the director
  • To conceive and develop collective musical projects.
  • To learn and assume one’s role in every performance moment.
  • To develop rehearsal habits and techniques. To generate a rehearsal discipline.
  • To develop skills for collective work.
  • To face the work processes adequately.

Who is it for

The members of the Taller de Músics Young Big Band are students of the Taller de Músics with an intermediate level of musical studies. The big band consists of:

  • Alto saxophone: 4 (2 principals + 2 substitutes)
  • Tenor saxophone: 4 (2 principals + 2 substitutes)
  • Baritone saxophone: 2 (1 principal + 1 substitute)
  • Trumpet: 6 (4 principals + 2 substitutes)
  • Trombone: 6 (4 principals + 2 substitutes)
  • Guitar: 2 (1 principal + 1 substitute)
  • Piano: 2 (1 principal + 1 substitute)
  • Keyboards: 2 (1 principal + 1 substitute)
  • Bass – Double Bass: 2 (1 principal + 1 substitute)
  • Drums: 2 (1 principal + 1 substitute)
  • Percussion: 2 (1 principal + 1 substitute)
  • Voice: 4

Director: Raül Reverter

He has played with many big bands, such as: Roda de saxos, Big Band del Taller de Músics, Big Bands de Vic, Terrassa y Sedaví (dir. Mike Philip Mossman) and the Barcelona Jazz Orquestra, accompanying musicians like Pat Metheny, Melva Houston, Jerry González, Deborah Carter, Lew Tabackin, Denis Rowland, Silvia Dotre, Laura Simó or Carme Canela.

Timetables

Every Wednesday from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm

  • Weekly rehearsal of 2h.
  • Extra rehearsals by sections.
  • Practice with a staging of 4 concerts each academic year.
