Denis Suárez

Denis Suárez was born in Ourense in 1990. When he was 13 years old, Denis began playing the drums. He participated in many projects related to gospel, hip-hop and pop rock and attended many musical summer camps of jazz, classical music, gospel and modern music organized by the Centro de Campamentos Eduardo Turrall (León), firstly as a student and years later as a collaborator.

 

Biography

At the beginning of 2010, Denis studied at Lancaster Bible College of Pennsylvania (EEUU) where he went deeper into his jazz training with professors such as Gabril Staznik (drums), Matthew Monticchio and Dan Hollingsworth (instrumental ensemble). During this experience abroad, he had the opportunity to join the Worship Choir and the university Big Band. When he came back to Spain, he began his studies in Philology at Universidad de Salamanca, where he participated in music groups related to jazz, funk and pop rock music.

In 2015, he entered the Bachelor of Jazz and Modern Music at the ESEM Taller de Músics. Denis finished his degree in June 2019 and presented his final project Laio de Pedra e Cristal, a fusion of contemporary jazz and traditional music of Galicia.

He has participated in many events and Jazz Festivals such as CaixaForum Jazz de Primavera, Nits de Jazz a Platja d’Aro, XIV Festival Internacional de Jazz Ciudad de Talavera, Fringe Festival de Torroella de Montgrí, 7th Festival Jardins de Pedralbes o JAZZMADRID19, among others.

He is currently involved in many projects such as the quartet The Mellow Sound with who he published the album Those Memories (Temps Records, 2018) or The Broken Frame, whilst he is directing his own personal project.
