Grégory Rennesson

Grégory was born in Paris, France in 1981. His music training began when he was ten years old at Ivry Gitlis, studying piano and musical language.

Biography

In 2004, he finished his degree in Port, Canals and Road Engineering at École Centrale in Marseille and he worked as an engineer for six years in France, Vietnam and Portugal. At the same time, Greg combined his job with his piano studies, training and specialising in funk, soul, hip-hop and electronic music.

In 2010, Grégory decided to turn his career around, focusing on music full time. He moved to Barcelona where he became passionate about jazz music and began the medium degree at Taller de Músics, where he took piano lessons from Marco Mezquida and tenor saxophone lessons from Nacho Romero and Vicent Macián.

He became interested in Brazilian music whilst studying saxophone in the Conservatory of Pernambuco (Recife, Brazil) in 2011. He then returned to Barcelona and decided to take the saxophone as his main instrument, taking classes from Marcel·lí Bayer, Hugo Astudillo and Raül Reverter.

In 2016, Grégory began the Jazz and Modern Music Bachelor at Taller de Músics ESEM where he took lessons from Santi de la Rubia and Gabriel Amargant. He also attended masterclasses by Joe Lovano, Jerry Bergonzi, Chris Cheek, Perico Sambeat, Ernesto Aurignac, Jacob Collier, Fred Wesley, Omar Sosa and Christian Scott.

A year later, he joined the Young Effervescence Big Band, directed by Toni Vaquer and subsequently joined the ESEM Big Band directed by David Pastor. In 2019, he formed his own quartet project.

Regarding his experience as a teacher, in 2018 Greg joined the teaching staff of Espai Sènior at Taller de Músics as a saxophone teacher, instrumental ensemble professor and as a director of the Nova Big Band.
