Pablo Martín

Pablo was born in Barcelona in 1996. He has been a music lover from a very young age, and began playing the clarinet at the “La Guineu” school in Nou Barris, Barcelona. Subsequently, Pablo got into the Escola Municipal de Música de Sant Andreu. In studying with Jordi Gallart, he was preparing himself to get into the Conservatori Municipal de Música de Barcelona.

 

Biography

After four years of studying on the professional degree, he began to dabble in jazz, listening to Benny Goodman and Sydney Bechet. In 2014, he began studying clarinet at Taller de Músics under Marcel·lí Bayer. A year later, amazed by the tenor saxophone, he began studies in the instrument with Vicent Macian and Raül Reverter.

In 2016, he got into the Jazz and Modern Music Bachelor degree in Taller de Músics ESEM, where he attended lessons from professors such as Santi de la Rubia, Gabriel Amargant, Ramon Cardo, Joan Monné, Sergi Sirvent, Txema Riera, among others. At the same time, Pablo attended many workshops, masterclasses and seminars lead by musicians such as Jerry Bergonzoni, Perico Sambeat, Dick Oatts or Ernesto Aurignac.

During that period, he combined his music studies with his degree in sociology at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where he graduated in 2018.

In 2019, Pablo received the scholarship of High Specialization from AIE (Sociedades de Artirstas Intérpretes o Ejecutantes de España). With “Pablo Martín Trio”, he  participated in the “Fara Jazz Music Festival” in Italy, where the band were finalists in the contest as “Best Group”. In that festival, he also took lessons from Jonathan Kreisberg, Andrea Pozza and Martin Bejerano.

Pablo has played the saxophone and the clarinet as a leader and as a sideman on huge stages and at music festivals such as XXI Festival de Jazz in Platja d’Aro, Festival de Jazz del Caixaforum, Festival de Jazz de Tortosa, the Nova Jazz Cava in Terrassa, Robadors 23 and the Jamboree Club in Barcelona.

He participated as a clarinettist in the 2008 Olympic Games in China playing with the Banda Simfónica Nou Barris de Barcelona, and he performed on the original soundtrack to the film Estiu 1993, directed by Carla Simón.

He is currently working as a professor in Espai Senior del Taller de Músics, where he teaches saxophone, clarinet and instrumental ensemble.
