The fourth edition of the international JAZZ I AM meeting will be more international than ever. For the first time since its inception, four concerts will be programmed in showcase format with bands from Israel, Germany and a collaboration between Catalan and Italian musicians.
Israel has become one of the most important jazz scenes in recent years. It has produced some very talented emerging artists, including pianist Guy Mintus and bassist Tal Gamlieli. They, along with their bands, will be two of the twelve groups programmed in showcase format at JAZZ I AM 2022 and will perform on March 24th at Jamboree. They will also take part as speakers at Superweek, where they will share ideas and experiences from their musical careers. Within this framework, the two artists will give two public concerts at Jamboree: Tal Gamlieli, accompanied by his band, will perform on Tuesday March 22nd and Guy Mintus Trio on Wednesday March 23rd.
Germany is another of the guest countries, thanks to the collaboration with the XJazz festival in Berlin. The Berlin band Komfortrauschen, sponsored by the festival, will perform in showcase format on Thursday 24th at Jamboree as part of JAZZ I AM 2022. In addition, the director of XJazz, Sebastian Studnitzky, will take advantage of the space provided by this meeting to present the Ensemble X Berlin Barcelona project, the result of previous work in an artistic residency with young musicians from the Taller de Músics. It will feature the collaboration of the German instrumentalist and singer, Loreen Sima. This show will subsequently be presented in Berlin as well.
Italy will also play a leading role with the show Barencia. The result of an artistic collaboration between the double bass player Michaelangelo Scandroglio and the pianist Xavi Torres. This new project, which involves Catalan and Italian musicians, was born out of an artistic residency carried out in Italy in the summer of 2021. It will be presented in showcase format on Friday March 25th at Jamboree.
We look forward to seeing you there!
