Singer-songwriter, actress and teacher Júlia Cruz, one of the three finalists of the Sons 2025 competition, develops a project rooted in the singer-songwriter tradition while blending influences from Catalan, Aragonese and folk music, incorporating electronic elements as well. This approach, already present in her previous work Deixar-me caure (2024), shapes a distinctive and evolving sonic identity.
Her compositions offer a journey of emotional exploration, with lyrics that address intimate and universal themes such as self-concept, the fear of being loved, and farewell.
On April 24, Júlia Cruz releases “Fred”, a new single that expands and reinforces this sonic direction. In this track, she further explores the balance between singer-songwriter tradition and contemporary production, combining an acoustic foundation —with a strong emphasis on guitars— with layers of synthesizers and vocal processing.
Produced by Vicent Monfà, the track builds a hybrid atmosphere that moves between organic intimacy and sonic experimentation. It features Abraham Lojo and Manuel Fuentes on guitars, Sara Òdena on cello, with vocals recorded at Sotrack Estudis and mixed by Pau Brugada.
“Fred” explores the sense of emptiness left by the disappearance of an intimate bond, maintaining a pop sensibility through a more exploratory and textural sonic approach.
