Alto saxophonist Perico Sambeat is considered one of the great Spanish jazz musicians. He has earned enormous prestige for his extraordinary professional career, both in Spain and abroad. With more than twenty albums as a leader and more than a hundred as an accompanist, his work with great figures such as Brad Mehldau, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Tete Montoliu, Michael Brecker, Pat Metheny and a long list of others stand out.
With more than 20 years of professional experience, Perico Sambeat is the most internationally renowned Spanish saxophonist. With a strong classical background, he started his modern music studies at the Taller de Músics in Barcelona where he had teachers of the stature of Zé Eduardo. In 1991 he moved to New York where he entered the New School. There he played with teachers like Lee Konitz, Jimmy Cobb or Joe Chambers.
His prolific professional career has led him to participate in festivals and programs all over the world, and to record albums such as Uptown Dance with Mike Mossman and David Kikoski; Cruce de Caminos with Gerardo Núñez; Friendship with Brad Meldhau, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Jeff Ballard, edited by ACT, Flamenco Big Band, with Miguel Poveda and Javier Colina, edited by Universal-Verve, Danza Guaná, third album of the CMS Trio with Javier Colina and Marc Miralta, Ballads with his quartet with Borja Barrueta and Bernardo Sassetti and again Colina, Elàstic a quintet with Jeff Ballard, Eric Legnini, Andre Fernandes and Thomas Bramerie, “Voces”, his second Big Band album.
