Ramon Civit

Professor of piano, music theory, harmony, counterpoint, and composition. Graduated from the Conservatorio Superior Municipal de Música de Barcelona. He earned a DEA (Advanced Studies Diploma) from the University of Barcelona, specializing in the influence of American music on the city of Barcelona, and a Master’s in Musical Research from the University of La Rioja.

Biography

He has published some of his piano compositions, such as Introspecciones, and has contributed as a composer to the soundtracks of Laura está sola and La memoria de los peces, as well as to the recording of Nanas Contemporáneas and Bóreas Ventus.

He has received various national and international awards for performance and composition: the Frederic Mompou Ciutat de Berga Prize; first prize in the music demo competition organized by Adagio; finalist in the Taradell sardana composition contest; platinum medals in the Canadian International Music Competition, Erik Satie International Music Competition, and Quebec Music Competition Online International; a gold medal in the US-Canadian International Music Competition; and two second prizes in the World’s Best Musicians Competition and the 4Seasons Vienna International Musician Competition.

He combines teaching music at Taller de Músics with his work as a music communicator. He has published several articles on opera, created the music theory method Musical Learning on a Blank Sheet, and conducts research on the life and work of Clifton Worsley (Pere Astort), possibly the first jazz composer in early 20th-century Barcelona.
