Toni Vaquer

Born in Majorca, he is a promise of today’s jazz piano scene. He trained at the Conservatori Liceu and was later on awarded a scholarship by the Berklee College of Music in 2013, where he studied a master’s degree in composition and arrangements under the guidance of renowned professors.

Biography

As an arranger, he has worked on arranging the Tribute to Salvador Font Mantequilla, the new project with the Glissando Big Band. Toni Vaquer prepared the unreleased arrangements of the songs by ‘Big Eril‘, the big band that assembled El Petit de Cal Eril for the Altaveu festival in Sant Boi del Llobregat. Two of the 13 songs by Joan Chamorro are presented by Mar Sauqué featuring Joel Frahm and “Duke Ellington Sound of Love”.

As a pianist, he participated in the recordings of Kraken with Toni Vaquer Sextet (Underpool Records), Sakura with Natsuko Suga Group (Underpool), U with Slow Quartet (Bebyne memories), Reallity Shaw with Voro Garcia Quintet and 20.10.2010 & Blues with Toni Vaquer Trio for the Berklee Jazz Revelation Records Vol.1.

As a composer and arranger, in Voodoo Kids Vol. 1 of the Voodoo Children Collective (Fresh Sound New Records), Menta, Diario Sonoro and Mut of Free Spirits Big Band (Bebyne Records), Vertebrates of Free Spirits Big Band (Bebyne Records), The Next Generation of D.O. New Ensemble (Youcali Music) and In Bloom with Voodoo Children for Berklee Youtube Videos.

His career has already garnered several awards: first prize at the 1st and 4th Jazz Competitions in Palma de Mallorca (2008 and 2011), Honorable Mention from the Liceu Conservatory (2012), the Duke Ellington Award for Jazz Composition from Berklee (2017) and the Dean’s List at Berklee College of Music (2015-2017).
