“THE ART OF PLAYING IN ENSEMBLE COMBINED WITH MOTIVIC DEVELOPMENT IN IMPROVISATION.”

Renowned drummer Antonio Sánchez, five-time Grammy Award winner and composer of the Birdman soundtrack, will offer an exclusive masterclass at the Taller de Músics.

Under the title The Art of Playing in Ensemble Combined with Motivic Development in Improvisation, Sánchez will share the keys to making the most of any musical situation, exploring interpretation and improvisation techniques applicable to any instrument or voice.

This session will be a unique opportunity to learn from one of the most influential musicians in contemporary jazz

ANTONIO SÁNCHEZ

Mexican drummer, five-time Grammy Award winner, and nominee for the Golden Globe, Emmy, and BAFTA Awards. He studied classical piano at the Escuela Superior de Música in Mexico City and earned a degree in Jazz from the Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory.

Throughout his career, he has been part of ensembles with some of the greatest figures in contemporary music, including Chick Corea, Michael Brecker, Gary Burton, Joshua Redman, Béla Fleck, and for more than 22 years, he was the drummer of choice for Pat Metheny.

As a bandleader, he has released ten albums ranging from modern jazz to alternative rock, including his most recent work, SHIFT – Bad Hombre Vol. II (Warner Music, 2022), featuring artists such as Trent Reznor, Dave Matthews, Meshell Ndegeocello, Silvana Estrada, Kimbra, Ana Tijoux, Lila Downs, among many others.

In 2014, he composed the soundtrack for Birdman, the Academy Award–winning film directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. This work launched him into the world of visual arts and earned him numerous accolades, including a Grammy and nominations for the Golden Globe and BAFTA Awards. Since then, he has composed music for feature films, documentaries, and television series, including Get Shorty, The Anarchists, and most recently The Studio, produced by Seth Rogen, for which he received an Emmy nomination.

Antonio has appeared on the covers of major music magazines such as DownBeat, JazzTimes, Jazziz, Modern Drummer, and DRUM!, among many others.

He has also devoted a significant part of his career to music education, offering workshops and masterclasses around the world.
