In 1996 the album Introducing (Freshsound New Talent, 1996) was released, the first joint work by the singer Carme Canela and the pianist Joan Monné. 2021 will be the 25th anniversary of this release. To mark the occasion the two musicians have decided to put together a repertoire with some of their favourite songs from all those they have performed over the years. And they are doing it in duet format, a minimal, intimate, and daring formation, where the two artists present themselves without any other trappings than their voices and piano.
The songs on their albums embrace a wide range of sounds and styles. We can find great numbers from Brazilian music such as “Beatriz” or “Madalena”, jazz classics ranging from Cole Porter to Thelonious Monk, and songs by authors such as Serrat (“Per Sant Joan”), Silvio Rodríguez (“Óleo de mujer con sombrero”) and Gato Pérez (“Granito de sal”). They also play pop hits such as “Walking on The Moon” by The Police, and “Julia” by the Beatles, popular songs such as “El testament d’Amèlia”, and their own compositions such as “Lluna”. The journey through these 25 years is therefore also a walk through a myriad of landscapes, musics and languages that will delight audiences.
