JOW

Júlia Contijoch, better known as JOW, is the national pin-up: magnetic, powerful, and with a universe of her own. With a distinctive aesthetic and an attitude that blends strength, sensuality, and irony, she breathes music in and out. Now, after a lifetime surrounded by melodies, she has formed a band through which she brings her most genuine stage vision to life.

The musicians accompanying her have diverse and rich backgrounds, shaped by jazz, pop, urban, and Black music, and have collaborated with artists such as Nathy Peluso, Ana Tijoux, Giulia Valle, and Julia Cry. With JOW’s compositions, they embrace mainstream sounds with soul at the core and lyrics in Spanish. Their performance is powerful, turning each live show into a unique experience. The connection with the audience is intense and direct, and at times, poets or dancers join in to complete the band’s total artistic journey.

JOW

More about JOW

From an early age, Júlia was surrounded by music thanks to her father, who collected records by artists like Michael Jackson and Madonna. At just eight years old, her great-aunt —a music teacher— recognized her talent and enrolled her in piano lessons and the school choir, where she stood out with several solos.

During her teenage years, despite the emotional uncertainties of the age, music became her refuge. She began writing and composing her own material. At 16, she started performing small concerts with Joan Isern. Once she decided to fully commit to music, she enrolled in the Taller de Músics, where singing at the Apolo venue became a turning point in her confidence. She actively participated in jam sessions, where she met musicians like Adrià Claramunt, who supported her in her early steps.

At 18, she met rapper Franky Brownz, who introduced her to the world of busking and urban music. She joined the collective Making Browniez and collaborated with artists such as Mario Los Códigos and Mery Myles. She won a songwriting competition in Sants park, which opened doors to new artistic connections.

Currently, JOW is recording the demos for her album with Enric Peinado, blending influences from urban music, soul, blues, and pop, and singing in Spanish, English, and Catalan.
