Morente & Roach in memoriam

Enrique Morente and the legendary jazz drummer Max Roach, alongside their musicians, came together for a week playing day and night at Las Navezuelas, in Cazalla de Sierra (Seville), to create a new work commissioned by Taller de Músics and programmed by the then director of the Flamenco Biennial, José Luis Ortiz Nuevo. The piece premiered at the 1992 Biennial, in a concert which was unique and exceptional in its complexity and transgressive will.

More about Morente & Roach in memoriam

Morente & Roach in memoriam, premiered as part of the Ciutat Flamenco 2020 festival under the direction of David Leiva, in collaboration with David Albet and co-produced by Taller de Músics, ESMUC and L’Auditori. It is inspired by the meeting of the two artists, but it is not a simple recreation. Each member of the instrumental group contributes their musicality and ideas, giving a fresh and unique final result. A journey that takes the audience along paths full of surprises and emotions between different musical genres, the common thread being the music itself, always in movement and transformation.
