The pianist Miranda Fernández combines flamenco, jazz and Latin music. She is presenting her 88-M project, a tribute to female figures in flamenco. She dedicates her work to all those women who struggled in solitude to overcome the cultural slavery, discrimination and societal coercion of their time. Despite all the difficulties, they are a key part of understanding flamenco as it is today, and they represent a beacon for new generations.
Her main influences are great musicians such as Chano Domínguez, Paco de Lucía, Chick Corea, Petros Klampanis, among others.
Miranda Fernández graduated from Taller de Músics Escuela Superior de Estudios Musicales (ESEM) in Barcelona. Despite her youth, she has played as a soloist in the Nou Barris Flamenco Festival and has performed in prestigious auditoriums and theatres such as the Palau de la Música Catalana, L’Auditori de Barcelona, the Konserthuset Stockholm and the National Theatre of China, among others.
She has also taken part in various artistic projects, including Barcelona Flamenco Ballet, Sant Andreu Jazz Band, Compañía Jose Manuel Álvarez, Las Noray, and Mediterráneos with Antonio Canales.
Now she presents her first project as a leader: 88-M, in which she traces the history of women in flamenco from her personal point of view and with the aim of highlighting the female role in the world of flamenco. She combines the modern with the traditional, along with Cristina López on vocals and electronics and Lucas Balbo on percussion.
