Álvaro López is a flamenco musician in his final year of studying for a degree in flamenco performance at the Taller de Musics School of Music. Active in the vibrant flamenco scene in Catalonia, Álvaro is a member of various ensembles ranging from traditional flamenco to flamenco-jazz and world music.
In recent years, Álvaro has had the privilege of performing on prominent stages both nationally and internationally. His debut at the Ciutat Flamenco festival in Barcelona in 2021 as percussionist for the renowned bailaor Antonio Canales with the company “Mediterráneo”, marked the beginning of an exciting trajectory. By repeating his participation in the festival in 2023 with the new company Ciutat Flamenco, Álvaro has consolidated his presence in this important flamenco event.
In addition, in 2021 he began a two-year tour as percussionist for the pianist Chano Domínguez, with whom he took part in several jazz festivals, including Cádiz, Elche, Guadalajara and Begur. They also had the honour of playing at the Gran Teatro de Córdoba and the Teatro Coliseum in Barcelona.
It is also worth mentioning Álvaro’s participation as a percussionist with Flamenco Queer in the 2023 BAM Festival, part of the La Mercè festivities in Barcelona.
In addition to his national achievements, Álvaro has taken his music beyond our borders, participating in international festivals such as the Locomotive Jazz Festival in Italy and the Músicas del Mundo festival in Santiago de Chile. His collaboration with Catalan pianist Miranda Fernández has taken him on tour to several European countries, including Sweden, Bulgaria, France and Albania.
Not only does he excel on stage, but Álvaro also shares his passion for flamenco through teaching. He currently teaches at the Taller de Musics, the Institut Flamenco and the Peña Flamenca de Manlleu. He has also given workshops and masterclasses at the Carmen Amaya Festival in Begur and as part of the Barcelona Flamenco agency, where he teaches in English.
