Carlos Torijano

He is a pianist and educator specialised in flamenco piano, for which he began studying piano at the Conservatori del Liceu, where he completed the Medium Grade of classical piano. Later, he discovered the world of Jazz and modern music at the Taller de Músics, where he studied for a few years.

He was introduced to the world of flamenco by masters such as Joaquín Herrera, with whom he studied at his prestigious flamenco school, and by Jumitus, who also introduced him to the world of Latin and salsa.

Currently, he directs the Flamenco Area of Taller de Músics, where he teaches flamenco piano and Latin, directs the flamenco combos and teaches the subject of Rhythmic Foundations of Flamenco at the ESEM Taller de Músics. Professor of the Postgraduate Course in Musical Creation and Education at the University of Barcelona, he combines his work as a teacher with the leadership of the flamenco-jazz quintet Torijano, with which he published his latest work Aprendí a Caminar in 2012.

He is the author of several collections of teaching material on the flamenco piano: Iniciación al piano flamenco, Vol. I y II (Ed. Carisch) as well as the collection on two DVDs of Piano flamenco (Ed. RGB).
