Born in Santander in 1977, Diego Calderón has a doctorate in Art History and a higher degree in Jazz, specialising in electric guitar, from the Conservatorio Superior de Navarra.
He also obtained a Master’s degree in Music as an Interdisciplinary Art and in University Teaching from the University of Barcelona. He is accredited as a teacher and researcher by ANECA and AQU.
In the field of research, Calderón has published more than 50 articles in high impact journals, books and book chapters dedicated to various lines related to music and the sound phenomenon.
In the field of musical performance, his activities are focussed on collaborating with multiple artists, as well as leading his own projects. He is the founder and director of the Big Band of the University of Barcelona.
Calderón has extensive experience as a teacher in many music schools. As far as higher education is concerned, he works at the Conservatori Superior del Liceu, the University of Barcelona and the Universitat Rovira i Virgili. He has taught at the Keckseméti Foiskola (Hungary) and at the University of Coimbra (Portugal). He currently teaches in the speciality of music pedagogy at the Taller de Músics Escuela Superior de Estudios Musicales.
