Glòria Torres

Adult Program Coordinator

Born in Barcelona, Glòria Torres began her artistic studies of singing, piano and dance at the age of 10. At 18, she began her career as a saxophone player at the Barcelona Municipal Conservatory, until she completed her intermediate degree with Miquel Bofill. In the meantime, she combined her classical studies with the field of student jazz at the Taller de Músics with Dave Pybus, Perico Sambeat, Ramón Cardo, Lluís Vidal, Errol Wolsky and Matthew Simon. She obtained the Certificate of Completion of the Seminar given by Gary Burton, from the Berklee school, in the Aula de Música in Barcelona. Then she continued her jazz studies, after which she completed the Superior Degree of Modern Music at the ESMUC.

Biography

At the Institut Joan Llongueres, she studied musical pedagogy with the Dalcroze rhythmic method and corporal expression. At the Ana Maleras and El Timbal dance schools, she studied contemporary dance and jazz. At the Escola Superior de Música de Barcelona, she participated in the introductory course of Voice Craft method with Gillian Kayes. Afterwards, she obtained the level II of the same Voice Craft method, taught by Paul Farrington and Helen Rowson. At the Music Therapy Centre in Barcelona, she attended the Music Therapy and Psychomotor skills course taught by Mercè Roca Carroggio.

She has taught saxophone, musical language, body expression, clarinet, flute, instrumental ensemble and musical computing in several schools and civic centres such as the Jam Session Music School and the Avinyó Music Space.

Currently, she teaches saxophone, clarinet, musical language and combo at Taller de Músics and the school Sant Joan de Maristas La Immaculada. At the same time, she has been leading the Espai Sènior project, which began in 2014 in the Taller de Músics, designed for talented amateur music lovers or simply interested in discovering codes, language, history and musical interpretation.

With Glòria Torres Quartet she performed at the Tete Montoliu Memorial Festival and the Escaldes International Jazz Festival. With the Bach Saxophone Quartet, led by Liba Vilaveccia, she performed at the Ciutat Vella Jazz Festival. Barcelona Jazz Festival, Jamboree Jazz hall, with Jazz Latin Band from the Espacio Avinyó School. Nantes Jazz Rock Music Festival with various pop-rock groups.

Currently, she leads the Trio GTT with Joan Carles Capdevila and Sergio Sala, with the show:
PORTER & GERSHWIN and other delights.

She has participated in television programs such as:
TV2 ‘La Noche Abierta’, by Pedro Ruiz, with musical direction by Antoni Olaf Sabater,
TV3 ‘Paral-lel’ and ‘La Marató de TV3’.

She has collaborated in several projects with musicians such as: Armando Manzanero, Nina, Moncho, Javier Gurruchaga, Txell Sust, Max Suñer, Jordi Bonell, Pablo Posa, Ion Robles, Francesc Capella, Ángel Ferrer, David Simó, Joan Vinyals, Elisabet Raspall, Sergi Sala, Vicenç Solsona, Llibert Fortuny, Eduard Iniesta, Joan Carles Capdevila, Gorka Benítez, Giulia Valle and Luis Figuerola.
