Joan Díaz

Collaborator

Born in Barcelona, Joan Díaz is a pianist, composer, and arranger. He studied piano, music theory, and harmony at the Municipal Conservatory of Music of Barcelona and at Taller de Músics. He has attended masterclasses in piano with Bruce Barth and Hal Garper. He obtained an Advanced Degree from INCANOP and the Higher Degree in Music from the Catalonia College of Music.

He has collaborated with various groups and recorded with musicians such as Randy Brecker, Michael Mossman, John Mosca, Robin Eubanks, Dennis Rowland, Theo Bleckmann, Chris Kase, Alan Skidmore, Jorge Rossy, Peer Wyboris, Jordi Bonell, Juan Munguía, Adam Kolker, Bob Sands, Perico Sambeat, Chris Higgins, Omer Avital, Gary Willis, Jeff Fiuczynski, Kirk Covington, Armand Sabal-lecco, Horacio ‘El Negro,’ Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Dick Oatts, Niño Josele, among others.

Biografía

In addition to being an outstanding jazz musician, Joan Díaz is a composer of film scores and the creator of interdisciplinary performances. He has collaborated with filmmakers such as Cesc Gay on films like Hotel Room and Krámpack, as well as on productions like El centro del mundo and Gemini XI. He has been awarded Best Pianist five times by the Jazz and Modern Music Musicians Association. His work We Sing Bill Evans received the Critics’ Award from JAÇ magazine.

Díaz presented his first solo piano album, Benestar/Peaceful, at the 42nd Voll-Damm Barcelona International Jazz Festival. He has developed various projects, including Cadena Trófica (2015) and Réquiem a Enrique Morente (2017). Additionally, he has led educational projects such as Bestiario and worked as a music producer.

As an educator, he is a full professor at ESMUC and has taught at various institutions and jazz seminars throughout Spain.
