The composer and pianist Laia Vallès (Sabadell, 1986) began her piano studies with Joan Andreu Reyes at the EMCA (Escola de Música i Rítmica de la Creu Alta de Sabadell), and continued at the Taller de Músics, where she studied jazz piano for two years. She received lessons from Alejandro di Constanzo, Joan Diaz, Joan Monné and Txema Riera.
After a period of self-taught study, she entered the ESMUC to study for the Higher Diploma of Music in the speciality of Composition, where she received classes from Agustí Charles, Aureliano Cattaneo and Christophe Havel and attended composition seminars by Stefano Gervasoni, Mauro Lanza, Raphael Cendo, Clara Maïda or Bryn Harrison, among others. She graduated in 2017 after a period of study with composer Helena Tulve at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
Her conception of music as a whole makes her stay active from both a compositional and interpretative aspect, recently premiering the works Astrea -dotze estels per a Virgo (Arts Santa Mónica, April 2016), Free International Sound (MACBA, May 2015) and Prison de la Santé (Saló San Jordi, October 2015). She has also arranged and played the keyboards and modular synthesizers in the group Joana Gomila Folk Souvenir, in the free improvisation ensemble Improject, in the project Fermín Muguruza & Micaela Chalmeta Big Band, or Sonets de Joguina (premiere in 2018) etc.
