Víctor de Diego

He is a saxophonist born in Bilbao in 1964. He studied at the Bilbao Conservatory of Music and at the Liceu in Barcelona, where he obtained his higher saxophone degree. He attended various international seminars in Bilbao, Madrid and Barcelona with Bob Moses, Roy Haynes, Mulgrew Miller, Max Roach, John Abercrombie, George Garzone, etc.

Biography

His professional career began in 1984 playing with bands such as Pork Pie Hat, Infussion and Quartet Creciente, with whom he won numerous awards at festivals in San Sebastian, Getxo, Mallorca and Ibiza, such as the award for best soloist at the San Sebastian festival in 1986, special prize from the critics with Quartet Creciente at the Ibiza festival in 1987, 2nd prize in the band competition at the Getxo festival in 1986 with Pork Pie Hat, etc.

He worked with the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra under the direction of maestro Enrique García Asensio in 1986 and 1987, with the Orquestra de Cambra del Teatre Lliure de Barcelona with maestro Josep Pons in 1992, 2003 and 2004 in Barcelona and Salamanca, with the Ballet Contemporani de Barcelona in Valencia on 19/2/1994 and with the Russian State Symphony Orchestra under the direction of maestro Mstislav Rostropovich at the Teatro Euskalduna in Bilbao on 6/5/2001.

He also works as a studio musician and for TVE, TV2, ETB, TV3 and Canal 33 in various musical programmes such as “Jazz entre amigos”, “Jazz & Co”, “Jazz a l’estudi” and others. He has also worked with theatre groups and artists such as Armando Manzanero, Moncho, Olga Guillot, Nina, Joan Manuel Serrat, Pedro Guerra and Amaia, with whom he toured Spain between 1986 and 1992.
