Alejandro di Costanzo, an Argentine pianist and composer, began his musical journey at the age of 11 in his home country. His education includes studies in piano and composition at the Julián Aguirre Conservatory, as well as a jazz piano degree at the Escuela de Música Popular de Avellaneda, where he also delved into Argentine tango and folklore. In 1999, he moved to Barcelona, earning the Bachelor degree specializing in jazz piano at ESMUC. During his studies, he was mentored by Karen Walwin and participated in seminars and masterclasses with musicians such as Walter Norris, Kevin Hays, Chucho Valdés, Bruce Barth, Horacio ‘El Negro’ Hernández, and Dave Liebman.
Since 2001, he has been a Piano and Ensemble teacher at Taller de Músics Escuela de Música and, since 2009, at Taller de Músics ESEM, where he teaches Piano, Ensemble, and Secondary Piano.
In the jazz world, Alejandro di Costanzo has been part of several prominent groups, including the quintet El Expreso, Anna Luna Quintet, and the Big Band Taller de Músics, with which he has accompanied artists like Santiago Auserón and Perico Sambeat. He has shared the stage with local musicians such as Vicenç Solsona, Susana Sheiman, Marc Ayza, and Aldo Caviglia, as well as international figures like James Carter and David Borgo.
Currently, he leads the Alejandro Di Costanzo Trio, with which he has recorded the albums Lomas (Errabal, 2010) and Barcino, la ciudad de los prodigios (Errabal, 2019). Additionally, he is a member of the Dream Big Band, directed by Vicens Martín, and accompanies London-based singer Janine Johnson and Paris-based Argentine drummer Minino Garay.
His discography features notable collaborations, including Cinco en una mesa (El Expreso), Mapas (Paco Weht Cuarteto), Suite Urbana (Vicens Martín Quintet), and Songs for Midnight Dancers (Joel Moreno Quintet), among others. With a rich and diverse career spanning multiple musical genres, Alejandro Di Costanzo stands out as a prominent figure in the contemporary jazz scene.
