Agustí Espín is an electric bassist, composer, and arranger. He specializes in flamenco and Latin rhythms such as salsa and Cuban timba. He graduated in jazz and modern music from Taller de Músics – ESEM, majoring in performance with a focus on electric bass.
His passion for flamenco led him from an early age to study with great figures of the genre, such as Carles Benavent, Javier Colina, Pep Cucurella, Gerardo Núñez, and Jorge Pardo, among others.
He attended the seminars El Flamenco viene del sur (1999–2003), held at the Teatro Central in Seville, where he studied with masters such as Avishai Cohen, Jerry González, Chano Domínguez, Phil McPherson, and Pablo Martín.
He began his professional career at the Barcelona tablao Los Tarantos (2004), which established him as a reference bassist within the genre.
He has collaborated with maestro Joan Albert Amargós at Ciutat Flamenco 2022, taking part in the project Suite de la Isla —a tribute to Camarón— as a bassist, alongside pianist Chano Domínguez and singer Rafael de Utrera.
He has worked with singers such as Duquende (La leyenda del tiempo 30 años, 2010–2014), performing at major festivals including Primavera Sound (2010), La Mercè (2010), La Mar de Músicas, Cartagena (2011), as well as in Toulouse and Amsterdam (2012). With Duquende, he also toured the album Rompecabezas (2012). He has accompanied Rafael de Utrera (2009–2010), Montse Cortés (2014–2016), El Potito (2016), and Israel Fernández (2023).
He has collaborated with flamenco guitarists such as Juan Ramón Caro (La Rosa de los Vientos, 2009), Chicuelo (La leyenda del tiempo, 2010–2014), Jesús del Rosario (Casa Patas, 2012), El Perla (Los Tarantos and Cants Oblidats, Mercat de Música Viva, 2015), among many others.
In the field of dance, he has accompanied renowned figures such as Antonio Canales, with the show Mediterráneos, within the cycle Ciutat Flamenco 2021, where he performed as a bassist in several concerts across Catalonia. He has accompanied bailaora Rafaela Carrasco in La Leyenda del Tiempo (2010–2014), and collaborated with Karime Amaya as bassist in shows such as La Mercè and the documentary project Bajarí (2011).
He has also performed with renowned musicians such as Roger Blavia, Jordi Bonell, Carlos Sarduy, Reinald Colom, Rosalía, Sílvia Pérez Cruz, David Gómez, El Piraña, and Kiko Veneno, among many others.
He has taken part in more than twenty recordings as a session bassist and is currently working on his first solo album, where, besides flamenco, he also explores other styles.
