Cati Plana

Born in Figueres in 1976, she began her musical studies with the piano. At the age of ten, she came into contact with the diatonic accordion by the hand of Artur Blasco, Francesc Marimon and the old accordionists of the Pyrenees gathered in the Trobades d’Arsèguel. Now, she continues her instrumental training with, among others, Antoine Dénize, Roberto Santiago, Alain Floutard, Mario Salvi, Yann Dour, Maties Mazarico, Vincenzo Caglioti, Patrick Cadeillan, Pierre Marie Blajà, Andy Cutting, Brian McNeill, Norbert Pignol and Stéphane Millere.

Biography

She complemented her musical studies with courses in improvisation, harmony, arranging, trombone and musical computing at the Taller de Músics de Barcelona. She has a diploma in Musical Education and a degree in History and Science of Music from the Universitat Autònoma, where she also studied Ethnomusicology. In 2011 she obtained the Superior Degree of Traditional Music at ESMUC, with speciality accordion.

As a performer, she has worked with groups and soloists such as Sol de Nit, Marsupiales, Adolfo Osta, Torb, A Granel, La Suegra de King Kong and the accordion and hurdy-gurdy duet with Marc Egea. She has also collaborated with El Pont d’Arcalís, Les Violines and Tapia eta Leturia.

As a teacher she has given classes in the Aula de Música Tradicional i Popular, Centre Artesà Tradicionàrius, Escola Folk del Pirineu, and has given numerous workshops throughout Catalonia, Valencia and the Netherlands. Since 2006 she has been teaching diatonic accordion at ESMUC.
