Graduate in Chemical Sciences (1964) and PhD in Geological Sciences (1976). Professor of Construction Materials at the School of Civil Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) (1986). Post-doctorate at the University of California, Berkeley (1985).
In jazz, he was the founder of the Jubilee Jazz Club at the Institut d’Estudis Nord-americans in 1958, which was re-founded in 2000. He headed the radio programme on RNE, Jazz Selección, from 1958 to 1965, was the presenter of the Jazz Programme on TVE 2 from 1972 to 1974, and has been the editor of the magazine Jazz Quàrtica throughout its existence. He has written several articles on jazz in different newspapers such as El Periódico, Avui and Estafeta Literaria. During the period 1958-2008, he gave many lectures on jazz at different institutions and universities all over Spain. He was advisor to the Jamboree Jazz Club from its foundation until 1968. He was co-organiser of the first two editions of the Barcelona Jazz Festival. He has written for the back covers of several LPs. He was a lecturer in the free-choice subjects Jazz: History and Aesthetics I, II and III at the UPC from 1990 to 2000. He made jazz-related trips to New York and San Francisco in 1983, 1990, 2001, and annually from 2010 to 2020. He is also the author of the first two chapters of Història del Jazz (Department of Education of the Generalitat de Catalunya) and is co-author of the Universal Guide to Modern Jazz, 2006.
