Joan Vidal

Joan Vidal Llobet (Granollers, 1984) studied music theory, piano, clarinet, and percussion at the Josep M. Ruera Conservatory in Granollers. After graduating in Composition at the ESMUC he moved to London to study a Master’s in Jazz Percussion at the Royal Academy of Music, obtaining a Distinction in Performance and studying with teachers such as Martin France, Jeff Williams and Pete Churchill.

Biography

His works as a composer include choral music, big band, string quartet, chamber orchestra, and he has received commissions from SCIC, Barcelona Clarinet Players, Cor Veus Amics de la Unió and Orquestra de Cambra de Granollers, among others. He is also a member of the BAO (Barcelona Arte Orchestra).

As a drummer he leads his own sextet, who have released three albums: Deptford Suite (Quadrant Records, 2012); Illusionary Rhythms (JazzGranollers Records, 2013), with music inspired by Ligeti Bartók; and Revisiting Zarathustra (JazzGranollers Records, 2016), a jazz suite based on Richard Strauss’s Thus Spake Zarathustra.
