Joana Riba

With a background in Contemporary Dance, Joana Riba developed an early interest in the moving body and its essence. She has deepened her understanding of the body through various techniques such as Global Postural Reeducation, the Alexander Technique, the Feldenkrais Method, the Fedora Aberasturi Technique and the martial art Aikido. Her curiosity about the body also led her to train in Shiatsu and Movement.

Biography

Creatively, she has explored other performing arts such as improvisation, contact improvisation, flamenco, aerial silks, circus arts, and Segni Mossi. She has trained with professionals like Andrés Corchero, Lisa Nelson, Hisako Horikawa, Franco di Francescoantonio, Katie Duck, Martin Keoh, Mirva Mäkinen, Alessandro Lumare, Simona Lobefaro and Esther Formosa. She has also participated in choreographic projects related to urban spaces and architecture at dance festivals such as Havana Vieja: Ciudad en Movimiento and Dies de Dansa, performing in cities like Barcelona, Sitges, Girona, Zaragoza, Toulouse, Genoa, Havana, Quito and Guayaquil. With a strong interest in multidisciplinary art and improvisation, she has collaborated on various projects combining music and dance, dance and circus arts, as well as audiovisual productions.

As an educator, she has been teaching Body Awareness classes since 2003 and later expanded into dance, contact improvisation, circus and aerial disciplines. She has also taught Body Knowledge Techniques at the Aules school and has led movement and gesture workshops for dancers and actors.

In 2014, she founded Tutuguri, a space dedicated to performing arts, health, body awareness and creative support.
