Pi McCarthy is a singer-songwriter, producer, vocal coach and actress. She graduated in Dramatic Arts from the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático (ESAD) in Valencia and later in Music Education Teaching from the UCV in Valencia. In addition, she graduated in singing from the world music department at Codarts, Rotterdam Conservatory of Music (The Netherlands), specialising in Latin and Brazilian music. The three branches of this triple-layered training in theatre, pedagogy and music have intertwined and McCarthy has turned this breadth of experience into her own working method.
In 2018, she was selected to take her solo project to the North Sea Jazz International Festival, Rotterdam (New Talent Stage, Codarts).
Voice, words, lyrics, text. Music, action, poetry, silence. These are some of the concepts which McCarthy works from and explores in her artistic and communicative journey.
Her debut EP, entitled La Senda del Agua (SedaJazz Records, 2020), is an album with influences from the folk music of different countries and combines genres such as pop, jazz and world music. In 2019, “Neón”, a song from this record, won a double award for Best Music and Best Song in other languages at the MiL Descobreix contest within the Xàtiva Festival of Music and Literature in Valencia.
In 2020, she was invited by the Centro Cultural de España in Lima, Peru, to give the workshop “La Voz en la composición” and to perform a concert at the Aves Raras festival.
As a teacher, McCarthy leads workshops and masterclasses on vocals and rhythm, composition, songwriting, songwriting and stage presence for musicians. She has also worked as a singing teacher at the prestigious SedaJazz school in Valencia.
At her own online school TODOVOZ, she offers vocal coaching for spoken or sung voice in weekly individual sessions, online programmes and specialised mentoring.
She is currently working on the release of her second album Molecular, which will be released in autumn 2023.
