The fifth edition of the JAZZ I AM Barcelona International Jazz Meeting, organised by the Taller de Músics, will be held on 16 and 17 March 2023. Participants will be able to attend three round tables on topics such as artificial intelligence applied to jazz, the creative process in international co-productions and the Artist’s Statute, the latter organised by the Association of Jazz and Modern Music Musicians (AMJM). There will also be a conference on artists’ rights in the digital environment. New this year is an in-depth interview space called “A Conversation with…” where Jeff Levenson will talk to Jordi Pujol from Fresh Sound Records and Francesco Martinelli from the University of Jazz in Siena. In addition, there will be a commented listening session entitled The New Sound of Jazz, which will analyse the new jazz sonorities arising from its fusion with other genres. All these activities will take place in different rooms of the Ocaña in Barcelona’s Plaza Real.
JAZZ I AM will host live performances by fourteen groups in showcase format at the Jamboree. Twelve of these groups have been chosen through a call for artists by a jury made up of national and international professionals from the sector. The other groups are part of Focus The Netherlands, which looks at the jazz scene in the Netherlands: Raquel Kurpershoek, Sanem Kalfa & Teis Semei and Guy Salamon Group. The rest of the artists to be seen are: Alba Gil Aceytuno, Antonio Lizana, Hip Horns Brass Collective, Javier Navas Quintet, JF Trio, Libérica, Los Aurora, Martín Meléndez Power Trio, Momi Maiga, Reptilian Mambo and Sumrrá. The latter has been awarded the Plataforma Jazz España 2022 prize.
There will also be a meeting place for programmers, managers and artists: MeeThePro.
