BOOSTING STUDENT EMPLOYABILITY

The school strives to maximise student employability and facilitate insertion into the labour market and the promotion of artists; the promotion of jam sessions and of big bands made up of Taller de Músics students; the organisation of work sessions with prominent professionals from the music industry: the promoting of collaborations in social and artistic projects and the internationalisation of students’ music projects.

Boosting Student Employability

GENERAL INFORMATION

Since its founding Taller de Músics has been developing a unique and comprehensive artist mentoring project to accompany students from the music classroom to the stage. Students develop their musical careers in a creative, dynamic and innovative environment, both from a pedagogical point of view and from a professional perspective.

The school strives to maximise student employability and facilitate insertion into the labour market and the promotion of artists though the booking of musicians from the school at festivals and varied music events; the promotion of jam sessions and of big bands made up of Taller de Músics students; the organisation of work sessions with prominent professionals from the music industry: the promoting of collaborations in social and artistic projects and the internationalisation of students’ music projects.

LABOUR MARKET INSERTION AND ARTIST PROMOTION

JAM SESSIONS AND LARGE ENSEMBLES

*All bands practice weekly and have jam sessions and performances open to the public.

WORK SESSIONS WITH PROFESSIONALS

  • Superweek programme, a week full of workshops and masterclasses given by renowned national and international musicians. The following professionals have worked with the ESEM: Pat Martino, Peter Bernstein, Bruce Barth, Chano Domínguez, Diego Amador, Marco Mezquida, Leo Genovese, Gerry Bergonzi, Perico Sambeat, Jorge Rossy, Chris Cheek, Becca Stevens, Fred Wesley, Paris Monster and Jacob Collier, among many others.
  • Every year the composition department welcomes a renowned resident ensemble who are charged with working on and performing our students’ works. CrossingLines, Barcelona Clarinet Players and Cuarteto Gerhard have been the resident groups over the last three years.
  • Artist residencies with leading national figures such as Chano Domínguez or Perico Sambeat.

COLLABORATIONS AND WORK PLACEMENTS

  • Collaboration on interdisciplinary projects with students from other artistic education centres such as the Institut del Teatre, the Escola Internacional de Fotografia Grisart, the Universitat Blanquerna and the Universidad de Barcelona.
  • Participation in the volunteer project Píndoles musicals, where ESEM students bring their music to hospitalised people at the Consorcio Hospitalario del Parque de Salud Mar (PSMAR) in Barcelona. This project is aimed at patients, family members, staff and users of the PSMAR health centres, the objective is to improve the hospital environment with musical interventions in the organisation’s different spaces (Hospital de Mar, Hospital de la Esperanza, Centro Foro and Centro Dr. Emili Mira).
  • Collaboration of music pedagogy students in the Maria Canals en escuelas project, where they give educational recitals of different  instruments to children of primary school age, principally in state schools. Occasional one-off collaborations with other schools are also carried out and an extracurricular activities project in educational centres is also being set up in order to offer students greater work possibilities.
  • Involvement of students studying on the production and management degree in the fairs and festivals organised by the Management & Productions Department of Taller de Músics, such as the Ciutat Flamenco or the international meeting JAZZ I AM, so that they can experience the organisation of music events at first hand.

INTERNACIONALISATION

Actions for New Musicians

Actions for New Musicians is a collaborative project between Taller de Músics and Acción Cultural Española (AC/E). Since 2019 it has been providing spaces for musical creation and promoting the international careers of emerging artists from the Taller de Músics community. The actions it carries out include periods of gestation in artistic residencies with national and international figures, the promotion of shows, co-productions with festivals, digital publishing and attendance at seminars and festivals.
