The Taller de Músics Escuela Superior de Estudios Musicales (ESEM), according to the Real Decreto 631/2010, of 14th May, which regulates the content of the higher artistic studies defined in the Ley Orgánica 2/2006, of 3rd of May, on Education, and in accordance with the objectives and precepts detailed in Resolution ENS 2869/2011 on the recognition and transfer of credits, validation of internships, personalised recognition of credits and other specific procedures in the sphere of higher artistic studies, formulates specific regulations for transfer and recognition of credits in order to enable students' mobility, and ensure that this does not create any impediment to the accumulation of credits within the European higher education framework.

Transfer and recognition of credits

The transfer of credits shall only include and take into account the official certification documents provided by the student.

The recognition of credits assumes the ESEM's acceptance of credits that have been studied and passed on another official course, whether that be in the ESEM or at another university. These credits are considered passed by recognition in the final transcript for the purposes of obtaining an official qualification, with the full academic value of grades from the origin institution.

The regulations govern the system, the procedure and the criteria to be followed in accordance with applicable law and Bologna process guidelines for the credit transfer and recognition process.

According to the aforementioned resolution the recognised credits fall into two categories:

  • Credits obtained in official education within the EHEA; in schools of higher artistic studies, as well as in other centres in the EHEA. Credits from final projects or from master's cannot be considered.
  • Credits for participation in; cultural, sports, student representation, voluntary and charity activities, up to a maximum of 6 credits.

The specific criteria for credit recognition and transfer are detailed in the same regulation.

  • It is necessary to consider the relevance of the competencies and contents of subjects already taken and those scheduled in the programme structure that the student is following. Only those subjects that have at least a 75% overlap shall be recognised.
  • In academic record transfers, all obtained credits are recognised.
  • When a student joins a new specialisation on the same Bachelor's degree, the total number of credits obtained in common core subjects in the different specialisations is recognised.

Validation of credits

The validation of credits allows the passing of credits by other channels, such as artistic or professional experience, or indeed for studies not included in the credit recognition and transfer system.

Students may request validation by attaching and submitting the relevant documentation. The acquired competencies must correspond to those inherent to the subjects in question. The validated credits count towards the final qualification, but as they are not graded, they do not count towards the final grade on the student's academic record.

Credits from final projects or from master's cannot be considered. The maximum credits that the centre can propose to the Dirección general de Enseñanzas de Formación Profesional Inicial y de Enseñanzas de Régimen Especial corresponds to 15% of the total credits that make up the bachelor's degree programme structure. That is to say 36 credits from the total number of credits being taken by the student.

Only the documents provided by the student shall be taken into account when processing a request for validation. This documentation certifies the acquired competencies that the student wishes to have considered for validation; these must correspond to those inherent to the qualification. A validation scale has been created for some subjects (see the documents necessary for the validation of certain subjects).

All applications, both for transfer and recognition or validation of credits, must be made in writing to the school's Technical Director, who has the final decision in these cases.

Given the diverse possible origins of students, each application shall be considered by the validation and credit recognition commission.

The decision on each application shall be provided in writing and with explanations, and the result shall be published on the school noticeboard, on the website and on the Taller de Músics Virtual Campus. Approved applications shall be registered on the academic record and students shall be notified in order to make the appropriate modification to their enrolment.

The application period for validations shall be from the beginning of enrolment until one week after the finalisation of the enrolment period. A decision shall be made within a maximum of 15 days from the end of the application period.

Validations of subjects are subject to a payment of 25% of the cost of the credits from the corresponding subject(s).

Only subjects which have at least a 75% overlap between them and the content of the course(s) already done shall be validated.
